Conveyance Duty
Duty (previously known as “stamp duty”) is a form of taxation charged by the State Government, under the Duties Act 2001, when someone acquires an interest in property, usually by buying a property. Normally, duty must be paid by the purchaser/transferee within three months of the transfer of the property. From 1 July 2009. agreements for sale are no longer dutiable.
Self assessment through Tasmanian Revenue Online allows businesses such as financial institutions and law firms to assess duty payable on documents without sending physical paperwork to the State Revenue Office.

Payroll Tax
Each employer who is obliged to submit payroll tax must first be registered. Upon registration the employer will be provided with a registration kit to enable them to lodge and pay their returns through Tasmanian Revenue Online. If you do not have access to the Internet, paper returns can be arranged by contacting the SRO.

Land Tax
Land tax is an annual tax payable by anyone who owns property at 1 July each year, unless the land is exempt or zero-rated.

If you are unable to pay your account in full before the due date, you will be required to complete an application for deferment detailing your financial circumstances and proposed payment plan. Contact the SRO to arrange for an application form to be mailed out. All applications for deferment will be referred to the Debtor Management Unit for consideration and/or approval and processing.
