The Interim Price Order will govern the setting of water and sewerage charges during the interim period before independent price regulation by the Tasmanian Economic Regulator, which will commence on 1 July 2012. For more information, see Pricing.

The Treasurer is responsible for administering the Interim Price Order that governs the setting of water and sewerage charges by the three regional water corporations in the interim period.

Following the Government’s announcement on 30 November 2009 to implement a five per cent cap on the increase in water and sewerage bills for the period 2009-10 to 2011-12, the former Treasurer, the Hon Michael Aird MLC, published an amended Interim Price Order on 17 February 2010. This follows the initial publication of the IPO on 1 June 2009.

Following public consultation and advice from the Economic Regulator, the Treasurer, the Hon Lara Giddings MP, published an amended Interim Price Order, as at 1 July 2011, in the Tasmanian Government Gazette on 30 June 2011. The Order takes effect from 1 July 2011.
