Medical cooling or heating concession

The medical cooling or heating concession provides a daily discount to eligible customers who have, or live with a person who has, a medical condition that requires the cooling or heating of the customer's principal place of residence in order to manage that condition.

The current concession is 42.155 cents per day. Customers must be eligible to receive the annual electricity concession to qualify for the medical cooling or heating concession.

The person seeking the concession must hold either a Pensioner Concession Card or a Health Care Card. ImmiCard and Tasmanian Concession Card holders are not eligible for this concession.

Examples of medical conditions that qualify for the medical cooling or heating concession include, but are not limited to:
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Lymphoedema
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Motor neurone disease
  • Post polio syndrome/poliomyelitis
  • Scleroderma
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

How to apply

Eligible medical cooling or heating customers must complete the Medical Cooling or Heating Concession Application Form (also available from your electricity retailer and Service Tasmania).

The form must be signed by a medical practitioner as verification that a member of that household requires cooling or heating of the residence.

Forward the form to your electricity retailer.  We cannot accept and approve applications as this is the responsibility of electricity retailers.
