How to stay safe online

Here are some practical tips to help you recognise genuine communication from the State Revenue Office.

Email

We will never ask for your login details if you are a registered user of Tasmanian Revenue Online (TRO).

To be safe, always navigate to TRO directly via https://www.tro.tas.gov.au/ instead of opening links in emails.

Our emails may include hyperlinks to resources on our website or subscriber service. If you prefer, you can visit our website directly instead of using these links.

If you get an email stating it’s from us:

  • Check the sender's domain name. Our official email domain is ‘treasury.tas.gov.au’. Watch for misspellings or subtle variations
  • Hover over links to confirm they lead to the correct page.
  • If in doubt, email us at revfeedback@treasury.tas.gov.au to verify the message.
  • Our emails will never ask for your sensitive personal information (e.g. date of birth).
  • We will never send unexpected attachments. Only open an attachment you were expecting.
SMS

We only use SMS messages for reminders when land tax is due or overdue.

Our messages will never:

  • include links to any website (including ours);
  • ask for your land tax account number; or
  • request your TRO login details.

For more details, visit our SMS reminders page.

Phone
  • We will never call you to ask you for your land tax or payroll tax account number.
  • We will never request your TRO login details.
  • or details to confirm you are the account holder.
  • We will never ask for remote access to your computer.

If we call you, the number displayed may be (03) 6145 5070.

If you suspect a scam, hang up and call us on (03) 6166 4400.

Report a cyber security issue

If you are concerned about a cyber security issue involving the State Revenue Office or your TRO account, email us at revfeedback@treasury.tas.gov.au or call (03) 6166 4400.
